With the abilities she can grant, they are not instantly activated. They require a set of circumstances to occur, an emotional stressor or a trauma. Some abilities (also called Troubles) are constantly active, some are not and require only trigger management.

Once a trouble is activated, it stays in the family bloodline. Children are not born with them active, and they tend to only activate after puberty and again after a stressor or a trauma. There are some troubles that are complimentary, such as someone having the ability to cause electroshock pains, and someone else not having the ability to feel anything at all.
